Description
Slide 3-5. Spodic Udipsamment. Brown Podzolic Soil. Location: Northern Michigan. Parent Material: Glacial Outwash (sand). Horizon and Depth: A 0-5 cm (0-2"); E 5± cm (2"±); Bs 5-61 cm (2-24"); C 61 cm+ (24"+). This soil is one of the most infertile sandy soils in northern Michigan. The color of the B horizon is due to thin coatings of illuvial organic matter and minute amounts of sesquioxides. The sesquioxide accumulation in the B horizon is too low to meet the definition of Spodosols.
