Description of slide: A quasicoating of Fe oxide surrounds a clay infilling in a pore.
Data for the horizon
Horizon sampled: Bg1
Depth sampled: 40-52 cm
Physical and chemical data available: pH = 5.0; OC = 0.39%; sand - 38%, clay 8% (fine earth fraction); coarse fragments = 4%; bulk density — 1 .70 Mg m-3
Macromorphological description of horizon: 5 GY 6/1 to 5 G 6/1 silt loam matrix; weak coarse subangular blocky structure
Location: Hampshire County, Amherst, Massachusetts
Topography and hill slope position: 3% east-facing toeslope at edge of wetland
Soil climatic data and/or soil water balance: Poorly drained
Vegetation: Abandoned orchard and pasture area adjacent to wetland, vegetation includes gray birch, high-bush blueberries, and grass
