Description
Slide 9-7. Plinthustult. Red-Yellow Podzolic Soil. Location: Lajas Valley, Puerto Rico. Parent Material: Sandy marine deposits on old marine terraces. Horizons and Depths: Ap 0-13 cm (0-5"); E 13-25 cm (5-10"); Bv 25-51 cm (10-20"); Bt 51-63 cm (20-25"); 2C 63-89 cm+ (25-35"). The mottling of the 2C horizon is characteristic of plinthite. At this site, this horizon is soft but it is indurated in a nearby old roadcut. The Bv horizon contains some 75 percent partly indurated plinthite nodules (perdigons).
