Slide 9-5. Plinthic Kandiudult. Red-Yellow Podzolic Soil. Location: Upper Coastal Plain of central North Carolina. Parent Material: Coastal Plain sediments. Horizons and Depths: Ap 0-20 cm (0-8"); E 20-30 cm (8-12"); Bt1 30-67 cm (12-26"); Bt2 67-125 cm (27-49"); Btv 125-160 cm+ (49-63"+). The scale is marked in cm on right and 30 cm (1 foot) units on left. These old, nearly level soils are very strongly acid and quite thick.
