Soils Certifying Boards

The National Soils Certifying Board is comprised of certified professionals across the U.S. and represents a broad spectrum of work experience from private sector to government to academia. The Board members for the National Board are nominated by the National Certifying Board and appointed by the SSSA. The majority of individuals seeking certification as a CPSS will be reviewed by the National board.

The CPSS Program also has three State Boards located in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. They nominate and appoint their own Board members from CPSSs located in those states. Applications from individuals residing and working in these three states will be reviewed by their respective State Boards.

Both the National and State Boards use the same criteria in granting individuals a CPSS; education, experience, examination, and ethics. These criteria are documented in the Certified Professional Soil Scientist Policies, Procedures, and Standards document.

If you're a CPSS and are interested in volunteering on one of the Soils Boards, please reach out to the corresponding Board Chair below!
