The Truog Soil Science Outstanding Dissertation Award is designed to recognize a recent Ph.D. degree recipient (received in 2023 for the 2024 award) who has made an outstanding contribution to soil science as evidenced by her/his Ph.D. thesis or dissertation. This award is supported through funds from the Emil Truog estate. The award consists of a certificate, a complimentary ticket to the award ceremony, and $2,000.

- Former recipients of this Award are not eligible.
- Those individuals who received their Ph.D. degree last year are eligible for this year's award. Each department that has granted a Ph.D. degree in one of the areas usually designated as soil science may submit one nomination, unless it granted more than eight Ph.D.s, in which case it may nominate two candidates. The Award Committee will make the final determination whether a thesis or dissertation qualifies under the term "soil science" as in cases in which the thesis or dissertation may be in soil bacteriology, soil chemistry, soil geography, etc. The committee may request a copy of the complete thesis or dissertation.
